Writing a Rule

So now you have the basics of the dimensions and VBScript, and you are ready to write some rules. But where should you start? How do you express what you want rules to do in the rules file? When you are sitting down to write your first rule, don’t think about functions and objects.

I have a method that I use and share when I am teaching rules. I call it the “commentary approach.” The best way to start writing a rule is to think about what you want the rule to do, not think about what functions or tools you need. This works best for even the most complex rules. It will help you think through what you want the rules to do, before you start writing any code. For example, “I want a rule to pull Net Income down to Current Retained Earnings.” ...
