Calculate Rules

The first and probably the most commonly used subroutine in HFM is Sub Calculate. These rules are run up to eight times in the Value dimension, so more often than not, this will ensure that you will be able to run the rules you intend to at the right point of the consolidation. That doesn’t mean that the easiest path is the right option here. If you can, you should put your rules in a subroutine and refer to them where it makes sense. If that is Sub Calculate, then you should put them there.

There are some commonly used rules you should put in the Sub Calculate routine, though, and we will cover them in the next section of this appendix.
