Administrator A user of Grid Control. Someone who should typically be responsible for the administration and management of a group of targets.
Agent The third tier in the Enterprise Manager architecture. An Agent is responsible for the monitoring of its assigned target, and responds to the requests users send over to manage and maintain these targets.
Alert An alert is a violation of a threshold for a given metric. The alert can be either in “warning” or “critical” state, depending on the severity of the threshold violation.
Beacon A virtual user, defined on an Agent, that is responsible for periodically checking the availability of applications and services in the enterprise.
