Part II provides the detailed reference information you’ll need to perform DBA functions, including extensive statement syntax and parameter settings. Part II consists of the following chapters:

Chapter 10, describes the elements of the Oracle instance—in particular, the various Oracle processes and memory structures.

Chapter 11, describes the elements of the database—physical files and tablespaces—and describes storage allocation.

Chapter 12, provides a quick reference to the Oracle initialization parameters (those stored in the INIT.ORA file).

Chapter 13, provides a quick reference to the SQL statements used by the DBA.

Chapter 14, provides a quick reference to the data dictionary views used by the DBA.

Chapter 15, provides a quick reference to the system privileges implemented by Oracle and to the initial, or default, roles created by Oracle.

Chapter 16, provides a quick reference to the commands and parameters used with the tools (SQL*Plus, Export, Import, and SQL*Loader) most often used by the DBA.

Appendix A summarizes the books, magazines, organizations, web sites, discussion groups, and list servers that DBAs should find to be helpful sources of additional information.
