About Memory Structures

Along with processes, memory structures are fundamental components of an Oracle instance. These memory structures store:

  • Code being executed

  • Data needed by code being executed

  • Information about sessions

  • Information shared among processes

  • Cached information

The structures supporting each of these functions are described in the following sections.
