Cold backup

A cold backup is a physical backup of all datafiles and control files taken while the database is down and while all of its files are closed (cold). A complete cold backup of all database and control files can be used to recreate the database as of the time of the cold backup. If redo logs and archive log files exist, they may be used with a cold backup to bring the database back up to the time of the last committed transaction.
