Archivelog mode

When you run the database in archivelog mode, Oracle saves a copy of the redo logs into separate files called offline redo logs, or archive log files. Just as it uses the redo logs to perform the roll-forward process when restarting the database, Oracle can use the archive log files to replay transactions taken after a backup. Archive log files can be applied to either a hot or a cold backup (described in the following sections).
