Backup and Recovery
Even with redundant hardware, you will still need to back up your database. You can do this through a logical backup (export) or a physical backup at the datafile level. As you’d expect, there are tradeoffs with each mechanism in terms of how long it takes to recover, how long the database might be unavailable, and how consistent the backup is. Chapter 4, covers this subject in some detail.
