The tasks DBAs do

We recognized that the job of a DBA is composed of a number of major tasks: database installation, configuration, backup and recovery, networking, and much more. Part I of this book is organized around these tasks. In fact, the chapters in Part I are presented in an order which is similar to the order in which a DBA will be likely to perform each task; thus, installation (Chapter 2) comes before configuration (Chapter 3), which comes before backup and recovery (Chapter 4). In each chapter, we try to present the basic information that a working DBA will need to perform the tasks associated with that chapter.
