utl_file Package
Purpose
This chapter teaches you how to configure, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot the utl_file package. The utl_file package was introduced in Oracle version 7 as a PL/SQL tool to sequentially read files from and write files to the operating system. Oracle9i Database added limited ability to randomly read files by shifting the pointer forward or backward through a file. Oracle Database 10g enabled the utl_file package to use virtual directories rather than physical path locations.
