Common Techniques for Data Mirroring

A couple of mirroring techniques are most commonly used in the industry. However, the choice of storage is totally dependent on the hardware—some hardware configurations support array-based mirroring and a few support host-based mirroring.

Array-Based Mirroring

In array-based mirroring, all the writes are forwarded to one site and then mirrored to the other node using the disk technologies. Array-based mirroring means having a primary/secondary site setup. Only one set of disks is always used, and all the reads and writes are serviced by that storage. If the node or site fails, all the instances will crash and need to be restarted after the secondary site is brought to life.
