Log Directory Structure in the Oracle RDBMS

Starting with Oracle 11g, Oracle stores all diagnostic data, such as trace files, core files, and the alert logs, inside a common directory structure called Automatic Diagnostic Repository (also known as the ADR). The ADR has a unified directory structure across multiple database instances, and all major components involved in the Oracle RAC database, such as ASM, CRS, and database instances, store their diagnostic files inside their own dedicated directory inside the ADR. Using a unified directory structure to store all diagnostic data in a common place allows Oracle support tools such as ADRCI to collect and analyze diagnostic data across multiple databases and ASM instances.
