In this chapter we look at considerations and procedures for optimizing performance in the Oracle RAC environment, which consists of a database opened by multiple instances. Interinstance coordination and reliable communication are necessary to preserve data integrity and other database characteristics. This requires CPU, network bandwidth, and memory resources. However, this need for additional system resources should not impact the end user’s transaction processing time.
