PHP is a server-side scripting or programming language. The primary purpose of server-side programming languages is to generate HTML web pages. PHP excels at generating HTML web pages because while it began as a small set of modules, it is now a powerful language that is easy to use and deploy. This language can be used to generate a complete web page but is generally used as part of a static or dynamic web page. PHP typically manages dynamic content display, which may include a server-side connection to a database like an instance of the Oracle Database XE. Two other benefits also make it very popular today: it is free, and it runs very fast on the server.
