Linux Platform Installation
The Red Hat Linux Advanced Server (AS) versions 3.0 and 4.0 were used to develop these installation notes. Other Linux or Unix variants should follow more or less the same patterns, but you should check the release notes for any differences. You should install Apache or another HTTPD (for HTTP daemon—a daemon is a background process) and Oracle Express before installing the PHP engine because they are dependencies for the PHP engine.
Apache HTTPD
The Red Hat Linux AS operating system provides you an option to install Apache with the operating system. Some other Linux and Unix variants do not provide you with an option but simply install Apache for you as part of their operating system.
