A New technology such as ASM is bound to draw various types of reactions from those who are affected by it. Database administrators (DBAs) love it, but system administrators and vendors of storage and volume managers might freak out over it. DBAs love the manageability of ASM. System administrators worry about losing control. Vendors of storage and volume managers lose sleep because Oracle Corporation is giving away a "volume manager" at no extra cost.
