Summary

In this chapter, we discussed the different roles played by the RAC and RMAN and how the RMAN utility can help businesses safeguard against data failures. We also discussed RMAN and its advantages and architecture. However, the core focus of this chapter was towards configuring RMAN for the RAC environment to achieve the best results. It also provided example backup scripts and suggested a good backup strategy.

Towards the end of this chapter, we also discussed the various methods to overcome a Single Point of Failure and the best backup and recovery strategies for the cluster critical components: OCR and Voting disks.

In the next chapter we will discuss the Performance Tuning options for RAC databases and clusterware.
