Chapter 7. Gateway Options

GNE was defined in Chapter 1, “Introduction,” as an NE that has its LAN interface active and that can forward or relay traffic between the LAN interface and DCC interfaces. An ENE was defined as an NE that can only forward traffic between DCC interfaces. In this chapter, you will see something a little more complex, but the definitions remain correct. Gateway options are advanced features that allow you to modify an NE’s behavior with regard to traffic forwarding or relaying between the LAN interface and DCC interfaces.

Note

The primary purpose of gateway options is to control traffic flows between the LAN interface and DCC interfaces on a GNE. Refer to the section “Interfaces and Ports” in Chapter 1.
