G
gain.

The amplification factor of an optical amplifier computed as the ratio of output optical power to input power, usually measured in decibels (dB). It usually represents an increase in the amplitude level of an optical signal.

gain flattening.

The art of getting equal amounts of amplification over a range of wavelengths in an optical amplifier.

grating.

A device designed to allow specific wavelengths to be reflected, while others pass through it.

grooming.

Consolidating or segregating traffic for efficiency.
