Subtending Ring Configurations

The ONS 15454 SDH supports up to 32 SDH DCCs with Release 4.x of the system software. This means that a single ONS 15454 SDH node can terminate and groom any one of the following ring combinations:

  • 16 SNCP rings, or

  • 15 SNCP rings + 1 MS-SPRing (2-fiber or 4-fiber), or

  • 14 SNCP rings + 2 MS-SPRings (1 4-fiber maximum)

Subtending rings offers the network designer versatility in layout of the fiber infrastructure. Sub-tending rings also reduces the number of nodes and cards required in a design and helps reduce external shelf-to-shelf cabling. Figure 10-31 shows an ONS 15454 SDH with multiple subtending rings. It is possible to subtend an SNCP ring from an MS-SPRing as well as subtend an MS-SPRing from an SNCP ring.
