Chapter 6. SDH Architectures

This chapter includes the following sections:

  • SDH Integration of TDM Signals— This section describes Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) integration of time-division multiplexed (TDM) signals. Communication between various localized networks is complex due to differences in digital signal hierarchies, encoding techniques, and multiplexing strategies.

  • SDH Layers— The four SDH layers (path, multiplex section, regenerator section, and photonic layer) are explained in this section. Path termination, multiplex section termination, and regenerator section termination equipment are also described.

  • SDH Multiplexing— TDM plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH) services can be natively accepted by SDH systems.

  • SDH Framing
