SONET Alarms
The SONET overhead described in the previous section provides a variety of management information and other functions including error performance monitoring; pointer adjust-ment information; path status and trace; section trace; remote defect, error, and failure indications; signal labels; data flag indications; DCC information; APS control; orderwire information; and synchronization status messages. A majority of the overhead information is involved with alarm and in-service monitoring of the particular SONET sections.
