12.6. Summary

Interdomain routing control is a challenging topic that addresses scalability and heterogeneity requirements in large optical networks. The addition of administrative constraints on information exchange adds to the complexity of the problem, as does the need for flexible network organization. While intradomain routing has been studied in detail, work on interdomain routing is in its early stages. The discussion in this chapter was an attempt to capture the current state of the art. Interoperable interdomain (NNI) signaling and routing procedures with limited scope have been demonstrated under the auspices of the OIF. Experience gained from this would help toward understanding the roblem better and focusing on immediate requirements. ...
