7.4.1.1. BASIC MODEL

RSVP was developed to support integrated services (i.e., packet delivery with Quality of Service (QoS) requirements) in the Internet. It is an IETF standard, described in RFC 2205 [Braden+97]. RSVP, in essence, is a signaling protocol. Using RSVP, a source IP host (sender) sends a message to a unicast or a multicast IP destination indicating the characteristics of the traffic it will generate. This message is processed by routers in the path from the source to the destination(s) (receivers). These routers make note of the reverse path to the sender.
