In 2007 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) took action against the American United Mortgage Company for an offense that took place in 2005 in violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA). The complaint asserted that the business had disposed of personal information by leaving intact hundreds of documents in a nearby unsecured dumpster, in some cases in open trash bags.
