Although it’s been said by many different people in many different ways, there really is nothing new under the sun. In fact the statement I’ve heard the most when working with organizations and associations in introducing the ideas and practices we’ve discussed is “We’ve tried this before,” most often followed up quickly by either “… and it didn’t work” or “… and for some reason we stopped doing it.” My response is always the same. Just because you tried something once and the results weren’t as you expected, doesn’t mean you should stop trying, or never approach it again. It simply means you go back to the drawing board.
