Additional selection criteria

In addition to the previous criteria, the following also need to be considered before finalizing your hardware selection:

  • Durability: Durability is a measure of reliability and is defined as 100 percent minus the probability of losing a 1 KB object in 1 year. Therefore, 99.999999999 percent durability (simply stated as 11 x 9 in this case) implies that every year, you statistically lose one object if you have 100 billion 1 KB objects. Alternatively, given 10,000 objects, you expect a loss of one object every 10,000,000 years.
