Procedural texture shading with object coordinates

In this recipe, you will learn how to produce a texture pattern on the surface of the 3D geometry with the help of procedural textures. Basically, texturing on a 2D/3D mesh object can be divided into two categories:

  • Procedural texturing: A procedure texture is an image or a texture produced mathematically using an algorithm; such algorithms use various attributes of a 2D/3D object to create an image; this type of texturing is highly controllable. Procedural texturing is used to create patterns, such as clouds, marble, wood, blending, noise, musgrave, voronoi, and so on.
  • Image texturing: In this type of texture, a static image is wrapped on the object; this image could be distorted on affine scaling ...
