4.6. Summary

Perl is a useful and easy-to-use tool for many purposes, not just on Linux systems, not just for administration, and not just for CGI script programming. We haven’t discussed the myriad uses of Perl in this quick-and-dirty introduction, but perhaps some inklings went through your mind as you read. We talk about uses for Perl throughout the book, and you can find many scripts at CPAN to get started.

A Word of Warning We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: If you run scripts, even from a trusted source, without scanning them to see what they’ll do, you’re on your own. Don’t run them as root. Be paranoid.
