Among the different business models for open innovation, IP brokerage and IP auctions have become increasingly popular. These two business models can be profitably leveraged by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for open innovation. In this chapter,1 we explain why and offer some tips on how to use them. We use the term “IP” to mean intellectual property, which includes patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and so forth.
