Different Types of Op Amps

4.1 Voltage Feedback Op Amps

The op amps discussed in the previous chapters are voltage feedback devices. They represent the original type of op amp, which is overwhelmingly the most common type in use. You may very well go an entire career and never encounter a different type of op amp. In a voltage feedback op amp, a portion of the voltage output is fed back into the input out of phase with the other input by 180°, resulting in cancellation of the majority of the gain. This also makes the gain dependent primarily on two relatively stable resistors instead of the active components in the op amp.
