Appendix D

Op Amp Circuit Collection

D.1 Introduction

This appendix has just a few op amp circuits that do not fit well into other sections of this book, in the grand tradition of “Floobydust” – a section of an old, out-of-print National Semiconductor publication. It is hoped that these circuits can give you a starting point for other interesting op amp applications, and give a glimpse into just what an op amp can really do.

D.2 Simulated Inductor

The circuit in Figure D.1 reverses the operation of a capacitor, thus making a simulated inductor. An inductor resists any change in its current, so when a DC voltage is applied to an inductance, the current rises slowly, and the voltage falls as the external resistance becomes more significant.
