Chapter 27. Internet Law

The chances are slim that anything you do on or with the Internet will get you into legal trouble. But it is possible. Downloading music, libeling, offering warez software, trying to auction stolen items, running a kiddie porn site—there are a lot of possibilities. Although we don't think the readers of this book are likely to get into such trouble, it's often good to know what the limits are regarding the law and the Internet.

With that said, the next 20 or so pages will not disclose a thousand ways to use the Net fraudulently and get away with it. This chapter is about the Internet and the law—from a social, historical, and most important, practical perspective.
