Content management is a general term. It is applied to many different practices and products in the computer industry. Content management was an issue for companies even before the Web. Questions arose about what to do with all the information printed on paper. The debate raged over filing schemes, microfiche, scanning technologies, storage, archiving, access, and the unfulfilled dream of the paperless office.
