Voiceband
This refers to the transmission of (voice) information over a relatively narrow band of frequencies, called the voice spectrum (about 0–3,500 Hz), for which telephone networks have been designed. Your dialup 56-Kbps modem is an example of a voiceband modem. For the sake of the scope of this chapter, voiceband technologies discussed include dialup 56-Kbps analog modems, modem doubling, and ISDN; broadband technologies will include cable, DSL, and satellite Internet access.
