Chapter 15. The Blog Phenomenon

One of the most interesting trends on the Internet is the proliferation of personal Web-published commentary generically referred to as blogs. A blog can be defined as a chronologically ordered series of short, frequently updated essays, series of commentaries, or “posts.” But there is more to it than that.

The term originated from “Web log,” or “weblog” and was further promoted by pyra.com simply as a “blog” at its www.blogger.com site (although www.pita.com is considered the original source of easy-to-use Web logging). People who blog are called bloggers, and right now there are thousands of blogs on the Net.
