The best time to respond to a hack is before it happens. Take the time now to prepare for a worst-case scenario, and you'll be in far better shape if it ever does. Make regular backups of the important information on your PC, keep your installation disks handy, and keep a hard copy of your ISP's phone numbers, especially its “report a hacker incident” number. In fact, it's worth a call to your ISP now to confirm with it what your post-hack steps should be. They might even have extra advice for you.
