In the mid-1990s, there was no shortage of breathless predictions about how the Internet would usher in a new era of worldwide camaraderie. A global village, if you will, full of people eager to share knowledge and experience—people working together to bring out the best in each other. Unfortunately, what we got were the same old scammers we have in the real world.
