Computer Game Genres

There are a variety of computer games that you can purchase in stores to play alone on your computer. Many of the game styles have been adapted for Web games (which we will try to note, when relevant). The basic flavors of games include RPG; adventure games; combat simulations; driving simulations; sports simulators; arcade/action games; board, solitaire, and parlor games; life simulations (God games); money-making games; war and strategy simulations; children's games (often described as educational). Because we are trying to focus on Internet-related games, the categories aren't as distinct as they are in traditional commercial games. There is overlap, and many are not clear-cut definitions.
