There are four steps in converting a CD music selection to an MP3-encoded file so that you can listen to the selection on an MP3 player.

The ripper program moves sound sequences from a compact disk to the hard drive as a WAV file.

The encoder program converts the WAV to an MP3 file.

The Player program decodes and decompresses the compressed and encoded file to play the MP3.
4.
You hear the MP3 file as normal analog sound.
