Defining MP3
MP3 is short for MPEG-1 (Moving Picture Experts Group-1), layer 3, and is a name for a family of standards developed to covert audio, film, and video information to a compressed digital format. MP3 is the means both to store and recover information. An MP3 player can be either a computer program on your machine or software built into a dedicated device. What the player does is reconstruct music from the digitally encoded, compressed format. It decompresses the information.
