When painting outside, many artists wish they could paint everything they see, but that wouldn’t make a very dynamic composition. Composition is more than just the design or layout of a painting; it is the relationship among the elements in a painting. In a good composition, the various elements have an organized flow and work together to create a visual path that draws the viewer’s eye to the painting’s center of interest, or focal point. One of the easiest ways to create a visual path and a sense of movement in your paintings is to include curving lines that lead from the foreground into the middle of the composition.
