Document Properties

Every document created in Office has a set of properties associated with it. In this context, the term document refers to any Office application file and not just to Word documents. Document properties include a set of built-in properties, and you can add your own custom properties as well.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint use Office's shared DocumentProperties collection to store both built-in and custom properties. From within these applications, you access document properties by selecting Properties from the File menu. The DocumentProperties collection is accessed by means of the BuiltInDocumentProperties and CustomDocumentProperties properties of a document. Each individual property is stored as a DocumentProperty object.
