Outlook Overview

Outlook is organized around items and folders. An item is an object that holds information. Mail messages, appointments, and notes are examples of Outlook items. A folder is a place to keep things, and an Outlook folder can hold items as well as other folders. Outlook folders are arranged hierarchically in a manner that is analogous to folders on a disk; however, an Outlook folder is not the same thing as a disk folder.

As with all Office applications, the Application object is at the top of the Outlook object model. One level down, the NameSpace object is used to access Outlook items and folders.
