The Office development tools are powerful and unavoidably complex, but it is a lot easier to understand them once you know the overall picture. Office provides, in its object model, a wide range of objects, or classes, that are designed to perform specific tasks. Automation lets you use VBA code to string these objects together to perform the specific task or tasks that your custom application requires. You can think of the Office objects as the tools and VBA code as the instructions. Ninety-five percent of creating an Office application consists of selecting the proper tools and creating the required instructions. You'll learn how in subsequent chapters.
