Entering a Function in a Cell

Excel provides different methods for inserting a function into your worksheet. You can type in a function (as you can a formula) by typing an equal sign (=) followed by the name of the function. The cell references for the function are then provided within the parentheses that follow the function name.

Typing functions can be just as fraught with potential errors as typing in formulas. Excel provides you with two methods for inserting functions: the Insert Function dialog box and the category commands provided in the Function Library.
