Appendix C. Office 2011, Menu by Menu

Because Microsoft Office 2011 is four big programs that work together, there are a lot of menus to cover—one set for each program. Although you can get to the commands you use most often on the ribbon, some in-depth commands only appear on the menus. These menus also change depending on what’s selected in your currently open document. Consider this appendix your cheat sheet for those times when you know something’s possible in Office, but you just can’t seem to find the command for it.

This appendix takes the menus program by program, so you can look up what you need easily. Here’s the first page for each program’s Application Menu (all programs): Application Menu; Excel: Hide Others; Outlook: Open Recent; PowerPoint: PowerPoint Menus; Word: Minimize Window, Zoom Window, New Window, Arrange All, Bring All to Front.

Application Menu

Like Mac OS X programs everywhere, each Office program has a menu bearing its name, just to the right of the a menu. It contains the Quit command, access to Preferences, and other commands that pertain to the program as a whole. It also has a few Finder commands, potentially saving you a trip to the desktop.
