Planning the Slides in Your Presentation

As you plan your presentation, and as you create the slides for it, keep the audience in mind. Whether you'll deliver the presentation in person, via an Internet broadcast, or by distributing digital copies of the presentation, you'll want to make sure that your slides are easy to read, are attractive to look at, and convey your meaning clearly.

For most presentations, follow these general rules when planning and creating your slides:

  • Keep your text concise. You can load any amount of text onto a PowerPoint slides—but you, your audience, and your message will benefit from concision. Try to keep between three and eight bullets per slide. Keep each bullet short so that the slide is easy to read.
