Identifying the Standard Components of the Office Program Windows

Each of the Office programs has several standard components that you use for controlling the programs:

  • Title bar. Like most programs, each of the Office programs has a title bar across the top of the window. The title bar shows the name of the file open in the window and the program's name—for example, when you're working on a document named Strategic Planning.docx in Word, the title bar displays “Strategic Planning – Microsoft Word” (the title bar omits the file extension unless you have set Windows to display file extensions).
  • Minimize, Maximize/Restore, and Close buttons. At the right end of the title bar are (from left to right) the Minimize button, the Maximize/Restore button, ...
