View Menu
This menu’s commands govern what view mode the windows are in, what toolbars are shown, and so on.
Draft, Web Layout, Outline, Print Layout, Notebook Layout, Publishing Layout
Switches among Word’s various document views; see The Views for descriptions.
Toolbox: Formatting Palette, Object Palette, Citations, Scrapbook, Reference Tools, Compatibility Report, Project Palette
Hides or shows these palettes, which work the same in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word—except for the Citations palette (Different headers (and footers) for different sections) which is found only in Word.
Elements Gallery
Hides or shows the Elements Gallery in Print Layout or Publishing Layout View.
Toolbars
Shows a submenu of 13 Word toolbars that you can hide or show by selecting them here.
Customize Toolbars and Menus
Opens the “Customize Toolbars and Menus” window, where you can turn on or off even more Word toolbars or create your own (see Customizing Your Toolbars).
Navigation Pane
Opens and closes the Navigation Pane (The Document Map).
Ruler
Hides or shows the ruler in the currently active document (see The Ruler).
Header and Footer
Switches the currently active Word document to “Header and Footer” mode (and shows the “Header and Footer” toolbar), where you can enter headers or footers that will show up at the top or bottom of every page (see Headers and Footers).
Footnotes
Shows footnotes, which also makes them available for editing (see Footnotes and Endnotes).
